Kids Code Club

Kidscodeclub an initiative of imaginative lab is established to inspire, inculcate birth coding culture in Ghanaian children.

Imaginative Lab has put together a coding club and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Programme ) Scheme that will serve children between ages 6 and 18 in community schools in Ghana.

The target group is those in less privileged communities such as pre-urban and rural areas.Generally, a wave of computer programming is blowing over the African continent with Ghana largely lagging behind the likes of Kenya. In a technological era as this, most kids in Ghana are for example limited in their choice of video games.

This could be attributed to the fact that they are forced to play games that are made available by the people from the West who were inspired by the games developed in their own culture. However, there are games that the Ghanaian child can also be identified with. Eg, owari, ampe, pempenaa, pilolo and many more which they would like to play on the computer but are not available.

What we do

At KIDSCODE Club we support local network of volunteer teachers who run extracurricular coding sessions for children in basic primary and junior high schools in our local communities.

The coding sessions take an hour, once a week after class at registered schools, libraries and community centres. KIDSCODE Club will provide a haven promoting easy to follow coding projects which will help children learn basic computing, create interactive stories, games, animations, maths, computations, and build websites.

The enabling environment will also help them share their creations with one another using Scratch, HTML/CSS, Python, Raspberry pi and Arduino.
