- Making literacy accessible to all
Thus knowledge in coding can aid these children to develop applications that can help them convert their passion into fun and a source of income by exporting such games to the outside world. The coding sessions take an hour, once a week after class at registered schools, community libraries, and centers.
In kidscode club Ghana, there is a belief that all children must have the opportunity for a successful start in ICT education, software programming and creative skills. This should be regardless of age, race, sex, family composition, income or community, but unfortunately this is not so in Ghana. In response to this significant disparity, kidscode club seeks to give every child equal opportunity to acquire skills and confidence in order to write their own computer programs, share, compete and shape the world around them.
To Inspire, train, incubate, and span the interest of birth coding culture in Ghanaian children for them to become technology creators instead of technology users.
To increase Ghanaian youth’s access to learning ICT and deeper fluency in technology. Also, it provides the opportunity for girls to develop an interest and make informed decisions about careers in STEM so that we can bridge the gap of only 39% of students opting for science courses as against the 60% mandatory admissions policy of the Ministry of Education.
In all our actions, we strive for honesty and transparency. Decisions are guided by a commitment to social justice as well as a long-term commitment to the community we serve. We aim to undertake our responsibilities with care, wisdom, and love. We value and affirm children’s diverse socio-economic backgrounds in our clubs. We hope to build a close relationship between the kids’ code club and our communities which will mean that we will be able to respond sensitively and effectively to the particular need of our students –linguistically, socially, and culturally
In conclusion, we believe kids code club is the way forward in terms of giving every child an equal opportunity to acquire skills and confidence in order to write their own computer programs, share, compete and shape the world around them. The world is ICT and ICT is the world now. We are therefore edging all individuals, civil society, cooperate bodies and donors especially to support this genuine course to make this program a success.
